Two pedestrians struck after Mountain View graduation Elderly female dies from injuries, nephew is in critical condition

MARANA -- Northwest Fire District units along with an engine from the Mountain Vista Fire District responded to Thornydale Road just south of Linda Vista Blvd. just after 9:30 p.m. after 9-1-1 calls were received indicating multiple pedestrians had been struck by a vehicle.

Northwest Fire to install traffic signal near Station #32

MARANA -- The Northwest Fire District will be installing a set of traffic control signals along El Camino Del Cerro west Silverbell Road near Fire Station #32 to increase the safety for residents as well as increasing the efficiency and safety for the units who respond out of the Tucson Mountain station.

Thornydale Elementary GEM students partnered with Champions for Change and the Tucson Audubon Society to update the school's current Hummingbird Habitat. Students supported by volunteers, added areas to the habitat to harvest rainwater and add additional plants to attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and other birds. Police continue investigation into death

MARANA -- On May 16, at 11:14 p.m., officers from the Marana Police Department responded to a residence located in the 8900 block of N. Palm Brook Drive in response to a 911 call. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male and female in the home. The male, 59-year old Jerry Dean Mayfield, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Rattlesnake Ridge Elementary Teacher Awarded a $5,000 grant money to be used to fight childhood obesity

MARANA -- Physical Education elementary school teacher Carol Wolbert challenged her 95 fifth-graders to eat healthier and get more exercise for 28 consecutive days. Their efforts were awarded with a $5,000 grant for Rattlesnake Ridge Elementary School from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona.
