In Honor of the Fallen

MARANA — People came from all across the country for Saturday’s 12th annual memorial honoring the 19 Marines that died in the crash of a MV-22 Osprey aircraft accident at Marana Regional Airport on April 8, 2000.

Parents lovingly spoke of their loss and brought to life their cherished memories of their sons. Donna Harter, the mother of Cpl. Kelly Keith, read from what are called event letters. These are messages written just in case there was an accident. She struggled through a paragraph written to her and another written to Keith’s little brother Dustin.

“Remember me, little brother,” the note went. “Remember the good times we had together and always remember that we will meet again soon.”

Comrades in arms also spoke. These were men who were transferred to different assignments just before the exercise in Marana.
