Despite fielding woes, solid start for Mountain Lions’ softball
Modified: Tuesday, Mar 2nd, 2010

MARANA — The Mountain View softball team learned a lot about themselves after their first week of action. The Lions learned they have three quality pitchers, some big time bats and need a lot of work on their fielding.

Mountain View went 4-2 last week but committed 21 errors.

The Lions had a nice run in the Dorados Classic, going 3-2 in the event.

Mountain View swept both games in pool play. They opened up with a 7-4 win in a game that was crazy early on.

Two errors helped the Eagles to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but Mountain View answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning.

Jessica Sipe led off with a walk and Ashley Rivera got on thanks to a dropped third strike. Freshman Kayla Ugaitafa scored Sipe thanks to a bunt single and Cassandra Rincon singled in Rivera. A.J. Deveny hit a sac fly to bring in Ugaitafa.
