MARANA – It was a busy opening week for the Marana track teams. The Tigers first hosted a four-team meet on Wednesday and then competed in the Phoenix area over the weekend.
The Tiger girls cruised to an easy win on Wednesday scoring 133 points. Second place Sahuarita had 46 and Pueblo amassed 42.
The Tigers won eight events, three by Mally McGarrity. She won the 100 Hurdles, the 300 Hurdles and the High Jump.
The field events were kind to the Tigers. In addition to the win in the high jump, the Tigers won all four other field events.
Crystal Arevalo won the discus with a throw of 86-8 ½. Jamee Swan won the Shot Put, while Olivia Brown and Ashley Willoughby took the Long Jump and Triple Jump respectively.
Brown and Willoughby then teamed with Brianna Gruenwald and Sydney Davis-Tate to win the 400 Relay.
