Mountain View senior Danielle Courtney returns a serve in last Tuesday’s match against Marana.

MARANA - Mountain View and Marana girls squared off this week on the tennis court and it was the Mountain Lions getting the best of their rivals.

The Mountain View girls downed Marana 8-1.

Marana’s Sam Choffin won a close battle between the teams’ No. 1 players, edging

Cheyanna Brat 7-5, 6-4. It was the lone win for the Tigers.

The next closest battle came between Jodi Calis and Paige Frahm. The first set went to a tiebreaker with Calis taking it 7-6 (3). She then clenched the match with a 6-4 second set win.

Danielle Courtney and Rachel Smith had fairly convincing wins. Courtney beat Hosu Chang 6-0, 6-1, while Smith downed Sabrina Ball 6-1, 6-0.

The bottom of the Lion order was also successful, though the matches were exciting. Anne Jeffery beat Claire Castillo 6-1, 6-3 and Reina Mizukoshi beat Jen Caldie 6-1, 6-2.
