Both Marana and Mountain View open spring drills this week. Spring ball is always important but it takes on more importance considering both schools have new head coaches and new systems to implement.
At Marana coach Andy Litten has nowhere to go but up. The Tigers won just a single game the past two seasons, but return a number of their top players from a squad that showed a lot of fight last season.
Spring drills open on Monday and will run every weekday through May 17th. The team will have their Lift-A-Thon on May 18-19 then take the next week off for finals. They begin summer passing league tournaments on May 31 at Pusch Ridge.
Most spring practices will be held from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. except on Friday’s when the team gets started at 4:15.
Mountain View also begins spring drills this week, officially opening the Bam McRae era. The team will also go the next three weeks, with their practices beginning at 3:30 p.m.
They will compete at the Cienega passing league on May 31.
Litten replaced Anthony Coronado who resigned as head coach due to health concerns. McRae became Mountain View's fourth coach in four years, replacing Larry Branson who took the Casa Grande head job to be closer to his home. For the complete article see the 05-09-2012 issue.
