The Thornydale9/10 Softball All-Stars remained alive in the State Championship Tournament with a 24-4 win over High Desert on Wednesday night.
Thorndale pounded out 12 first inning urns and never looked back. They added three in the second and five more in the third before High Desert scratched out a three-run third inning to cut the lead to 20-4.
Thornydale did not blink and responded with a four run fourth to close out the scoring and after a scoreless bottom of the fourth by High Desert, the game concluded due to the mercy rule.
Zaylie Calderon belted a grand slam to drive in her four runs, while Jordyn Van Der Werf, Kaylah Thompson, Ayanna Valenzuela and Madison Brown all drove in two runs.
Calderon got the win in the circle, scattering three his over four innings of work.
Thornydale is now 2-1 in the event and will face Show Low on Thursday night for a chance to play the Sunnyside/Gilbert loser for a place in the championship bracket.
Thornydale previously beat Show Low 7-2 in the first round of the tournament.
