Hundreds of people set off hundreds of rockets of all sizes at the Southern Arizona Rocketry Association’s Desert Heat March 26-27. On both days 50 kids got to set off 50 mini-rockets at one time; maxi-rockets went up thousands of feet and deployed parachutes to return to Earth. The event was held off Reservation Road between Manville and Mile Wide. There are Rocket Days each upcoming month; spectators attend free, rocket rentals are available for $2, and a $5 launch fee is charged for launch pads and ignition systems.
