AVRA VALLEY — The Avra Valley Fire District has purchased two new fire apparatus. The two new trucks are what call water tenders. Water tenders are apparatus that are capable of carrying large amounts of water and equipment needed to help firefighting efforts. One of the water tenders is able to carry 1,800 gallons of water and the other water tender is capable of carrying 4,000 gallons of water.
The new water tender’s are flexible and practical for both wild land and structural firefighting responses. The Avra Valley Fire District relies heavily on such apparatus for water due to the rural area of the community. Unlike municipalities, Avra Valley’s rural fire district does not have as many fire hydrants or the water supply in some areas for fire suppression. The water tenders will serve as mobile water supply sources for firefighting efforts on the fire ground.
These new water tenders will be contracted out to the U. S. Forest Service during wild land fire season to help supply the forest service with water supply on major campaign fires as well as generate some revenue for the fire district when called upon by the forest service.
