MARANA - Last week Mountain View students had an opportunity to learn more about healthy lifestyles. The school held “Do The Right Thing, Mountain View! Get Fit Week!” It provided students at the school with multiple special opportunities to participate in lunchtime activities to celebrate Wellness Week.

The events were coordinated by the Health and Medical Sciences (HMS) Academy and the Student Wellness Advocacy Team (SWAT).

On Wednesday it was “Push Up, Pull Up, Sit Up Day”, where students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of fitness activities.

Thursday was the eliptical open house, where the school unveiled some new equipment in the workout room. Last Thursday also saw the debut of the new Kitchen Cart, where students can order healthy smoothies. They also had a number of pick-up basketball games on several courts as wells as exercise demonstrations and classes.

Friday was the dodgeball tournament.

Aligned with the CPPW (Communities Putting Prevention to Work) grant, Mountain View High School is committed to increasing participation in extra-curricular physical activity programs, i.e. before school, after school, or at lunch.

Wellness Weeks are set up to focus attention on physical activity and nutrition particularly during four weeks of the school year.

One week, in every nine weeks of school, the school highlights the importance of wellness, emphasizing healthy eating and leading an active life.
