Lions host 7-on-7 passing league

Posted: Thursday, Jun 21st, 2012

By now 7-on-7 passing leagues are getting to be routine for the Marana and Mountain View football teams. Both teams have competed in a number of events and are making the sessions a regular part of their off-season training.

On Wednesday night the Mountain Lions hosted their first passing league. Cholla, Amphi and Desert View were also on hand to compete.

The Lions fielded both their varsity and junior varsity teams on the evening, getting each squad work separately. The turnout for each squad has been impressive and gave the team the luxury of splitting up for the event. The other schools involved appeared to combine their teams or did not bring younger players.

Most involved seem to agree that the transition to new coach Bam McRae has been a smooth one. McRae has put a huge emphasis on strength and conditioning, no surprise considering his background as a strength coach and trainer. Another change seems to be a big emphasis on discipline and personal accountability. McRae may be a relatively young coach, but he is requiring his players to uphold a standard and maintain some lofty expectations. Several of the parents I have spoken too are thrilled with this slight shift in team philosophy.
