Community Partners make Star Spangled event Spectacular

Modified: Tuesday, Jul 3rd, 2012

During a time when local governments are watching their budgets more closely than ever, itís essential to have strong community partners. We are fortunate to have plenty in Marana.

Our Star Spangled Spectacular is an excellent example of an event that is made possible through private-sector sponsorships. Our staff has fostered good relationships with local businesses to help fund a celebration that is enjoyed by thousands each year.

The town council and staff appreciate the consistent generosity shown by Comcast and the Quarry Pines Golf Club. For the fourth consecutive year, Comcast is picking up the tab for the fireworks, a $10,000 show of support, that proves how critical that organization is as a community partner.

The Quarry Pines is stepping up for the third straight year to serve as home of the fireworks show. The golf club is hosting live music, food vendors, kidsí activities and a large grass seating area for a crowd expected to be in the thousands.

Northwest Fire District is providing emergency services and protection on site. While we have never had an issue with fires at our July 4 celebration, itís reassuring to know that the trained professionals at Northwest Fire are there if the unforeseen happens.

We owe a special thanks to Miss Arizona 2011 Jennifer Sedler, who drove from Chandler in May to tape the townís TV commercial for the event. Jennifer has assisted at several of our events and she always does a fantastic job. The public service announcement was put together by Epic Productions through financial support from Comcast, which also aired the ad dozens of times at no cost to the town.

The Marana News and The Explorer newspaper and deserve applause for providing print and online ads at reduced rates. Classic rock station KLPX is showing up to do a live remote at no cost. We enjoy a strong and trusting relationship with our local outlets, who also find value in promoting their fine products to potential Marana customers.

The Marana Town Council and I invite you to dine at any of the restaurants at Arizona Pavilions before or after the show. Nanaís Kitchen, Native New Yorker and Wendyís are providing specials that evening. Visit www.marana.com for more details.

The Star Spangled Spectacular is the culmination of many months of planning and many years of building solid relationships with private industry. We form these partnerships for you, our residents and business owners.

You have come to expect quality recreation and entertainment options in Marana and we pledge to continue delivering them.
