Face it - Fight it - forget it

Posted: Wednesday, Jul 11th, 2012

We all have had adversity at some point in our lives. Sometimes we cause it to come to us, but sometimes it comes to us by no fault of our own.

In the bible King David said it this way, Psalms 34:19, "Many of the afflictions of the righteous.”

In the New Testament Jesus says it this way, John 16:33, "In the world you shall have tribulation”.

You can count on afflictions and tribulation to come your way. They may come through family dysfunction, financial trouble, bad relations or even physical or emotional abuse. But the first step to deliverance is to “Face it.” You must deal with it head on, wake up and realize that you have issues that are destroying your life. Some people will go in hiding instead of “Facing” their issue. Just like the ostrich that sticks its head in the ground to hide, they will hide behind alcohol or drugs or attempt to deal with issues by overeating. Only to find that when the high is gone and the belly is full the problem is still there.

When hardship invades your life, understand that God is just creating another pearl. When a grain of sand pierces the shell of an oyster, all the otherwise dormant resources within the tiny oyster respond to the foreign irritant by caring for that sensitive spot. Over time, the sand particle is covered by healing fluids, and the wound becomes a pearl. That problem that’s been irritating you is about to make you a pearl.

After you have been honest with yourself, come out of denial and faced your issue, you are now ready to “fight it.” It is time to become courageous and painfully honest and work through the issue. You are literally in a spiritual warfare. Put all the cards on the table and let the God of Peace through the power of Holy Spirit shape and mold the outcome. People who don’t deal with hardship eventually become bitter. Bitterness is like termites in the foundation of a home. Massive damage has been done before you realize there is a problem.

You must find a place of healing. That place can be found in the word of God, for Psalms 107:20 says, "He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions."

Now that you have faced the issue and gone to battle to heal it, you are ready for the final stage, “forget it.” Put it behind you. Don’t hold on to it. Let it go. If you continue to hold on to the pain and hardship you will find yourself the one in bondage to it. When someone wrongs you and you forgive them, you will be tempted not to forget. That’s the enemy wanting you to be trapped and shackled. Yet the person you forgave is free and gone on about their business. So let it go and move forward in your life.

The bible says in John 8:36, "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." When you are truly free by the Son of God, nothing can hold you in bondage. So my brothers and sisters in Christ, take the vital steps to defeating the enemy and walking in victory in Jesus, “Face it - Fight it - forget it."

See you in church this Sunday.
