Swim teams to conclude season on Saturday

The summer swim club season will come to an end this weekend. The Wade McLean Pool at Marana High School will host the Pima County championships this Saturday and the two teams from Marana will have a number of participants.

In fact the Marana Marlins and the Wade McLean Tiger Sharks are the two biggest teams in the county. Both have over 100 swimmers, with the Marlins boasting nearly 120 swimmers.

The Marlins are going for their third straight championships. In fact a team from Marana has won the last four titles and all but two titles since 1995. The Marlins have won 13 championships and have finished second on three other occasions.

Both teams have a good shot at winning again, as do the Kino Tsunami and the Manzanita Torpedoes.

The Marlins are not only going for a third straight title, but have dedicated the season to the memory of Joanne Brown, a former Marana athlete whose children swam in the program.

“She was taken from us far too early,” noted team director Debbie Sullivan.
