Thornydale comes up short

The Thornydale 9/10 Softball All-Stars saw their season come to an end with their second loss in the Arizona State Championship Tournament.

A fast start and strong finish propelled Gilbert to a 7-4 win over Thornydale in an elimination game.

Gilbert scored the first four runs of the game, plating three runs in the bottom of the first and adding a single run in the second.

Thornydale answered, scoring four in the third, tying the game 4-4. Unfortunately for Thornydale, it was the only scoring they could muster on the night.

Gilbert took the lead for good with a run in the fourth and iced the game with two more in the fifth.

The loss was Thornydale’s second in the double-elimination tournament.
